Can you believe it?
3 of Wainui's brilliant sports teams (2 from Wainuiomata High School and the town's indoor sports club) have got the entire town banned from a motel. That's 16,000 people who can no longer stay in this particular motel because of Wainui's pride and joy sports teams.
The Supreme Moter Lodge is owned by Steve Donnelly(an Aussie) in Palmerston North. He says because it is only a small town they won't lose much. So Wainuiomartians, Mr Donnelly thinks that we are insignificant and that all of us are pigs who can't look after a motel room. Admittedly there may be a few people who fit this description, but the majority don't.
Apparently the teams were
- too noisy
- gave the manager lip
- didn't keep the rules
And get this, if you break a rule, a staff member will come over and tell you "Two minutes in the naughty chair", no matter whether you are a kid or adult! No wonder they got banned. All the kids wanted to see what they could get away with before being punished. If you treat us like 3 yr olds, chances are we will act like 3 yr olds.
The manager told one of the groups that he didn't want his motel being treated like a marae or a state house. Has the idiot even been to Wainui? There are hardly any state houses here. Now that's just insulting."But don't take it personally". He is also thinking of banning places in Hawkes Bay and Hamilton

Alas, good old Trevor Millard (local MP) went to the motel to test the ban. Trevor even invited Steve to come stay at his place if he wants to come down and even offered his a cooked brekkie, and mentioned how people in low decile schools are doing so well. And that people is why he is our MP!
"As a parliamentarian, I appreciate it. As a Scotsman, I don't have a vote. Doesn't matter to me, you're banned"
Seems politicians aren't exempt from the ban either.
Another quote from Trevor reads: "It's stupid and very, very unfair. It shows the sort of blind prejudice I thought we didn't have in New Zealand anymore. I'm not surprised the [owner's] Australian." Love the last part.
Ray Wallace said "The town should not be punished for the actions of "a few young, high-spirited sports players". That's all good in theory, but now can we please stop having sport shoved down our throats!
Mayur from the comments section said: "Most everyone I know who grew up there are violent cynicists with no consideration for anyone else, while the others I know have made brave attempts to move out or have done so to the extreme by fleeing the country. " So I'm guessing this person knew 2 people and assumes that everyone in Wainui must be the same. Obviously hangs out with the wrong crowd as well.
